Riding squads
Technicians embarked for passage, working the vessel's defect list under way instead of alongside.
A riding squad converts sea time into work time. The defect list that would otherwise wait for the next port — or the next docking — is executed on passage by technicians carried on board for that purpose.
The limits are real and are stated before mobilisation rather than after boarding. Hot work at sea is governed by the vessel’s own permit system and by what the cargo and the class allow. Some scopes cannot be executed under way, and Corvaden will say so at the quotation stage.
The Master retains control of the vessel and of every permit issued. Corvaden’s foreman reports to the Chief Engineer and to the owner, daily, in writing.
